Hi Ray,

Trump’s a loose cannon. He could both prove to be Netanyahu’s best friend or his worst enemy (I am reminded of the day he stood as president next to Netanyahu in the WH and spoke of the terrible conditions Palestinians have to live in at the hands of the Israelis).

As for arming Netanyahu “to the teeth,” Biden’s already done that. He’s also vetoed multiple motions for a ceasefire at the Security Council. He made clear Rafah was his “red line,” only to send the Israelis more military aid after they violated it.

So, while yes, Trump could be worse (or better), long term Palestinian freedom can only be guaranteed when the American establishment (Democrat or Republican) realize that helping Israel to violate that freedom could cost them elections.

Trump is a surprisingly canny “politician” and will not want to be seen as too cozy with Netanyahu (who he already dislikes)

I appreciate that you’ve thought this through. I’m a climate activist and I fully understand that neither candidate is good on this (existential) issue and that our movement will need to continue fighting whoever wins after the election.
